What does it mean if an Electrical Contractor is NABCEP certified?  The easiest way to put it is that the Electrical contractor that is NABCEP certified has trained and passed a rigorous examination to install Solar PV systems on homes and businesses.  The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) states on it’s website that “Certification offers the public a high degree of protection because practitioners have to meet standards or qualifications and pass an exam, and they do so voluntarily.  By receiving the title of NABCEP Certified PV Installer™, you have demonstrated to your peers, supervisors and customers that you are a qualified, professional and knowledgeable Solar PV Installer”.

Currently Trim Electric and our sister company Emerald-NRG (www.emerald-nrg.com) has noticed that many of the incentive programs in the state of Texas are requiring that consumers hire a licensed and NABCEP certified electrical contractor to perform the installation of the Solar PV arrays on homes or businesses.    Incentive programs are still a critical part of the renewable energy industry. Many public benefits programs are incorporating NABCEP Certification into their legislation, which gives policy makers a clear way to identify and define qualified installers that are eligible to receive incentives.

Joe Palumbo is a 2nd  generation owner of Trim Electric and co-founder of Emerald NRG. He has been a professional in the electrical contracting business since 1989. He has owned and operated Trim electric for 15 years, a family electrical contracting business that was established in 1978. Joe holds a Texas Master electricians license and the NABCEP certification to install Solar-Photovoltaic.  While attending Texas A&M university and the University of Houston he studied Marketing and Accounting.  When Joe is not working he enjoys running, kayaking, scuba diving, traveling and spending time with his family.
